The Charger Varsity Baseball Team Split a doubleheader to open the season on Saturday against Rochester High School.  In Game One, Trent Johnson threw a complete game shutout striking out 7 and walking 2.  Johnson only allowed 3 hits by Rochester.  Offensively, the Chargers were led by Caleb Brenske who collected 3 hits and drove in 3 runs.  Jack Bakus added two hits scoring two runs and knocking in two runs.  Nolan Sanders also contributed with two rbi's.

In Game Two, the Chargers struggled to get things going and dropped the second game 10-7.  Nolan Sanders was the starting pitcher for Dow High and took the loss.  Sanders went 1 2/3 innings giving up 7 runs on 2 hits and walking 5 Rochester batters.  Caleb Brenske came in relief and settled things down allowing the Chargers to make a game of it.  Brenske went 4 innings striking out 4 and giving up 3 runs.  Logan McCoy finished the game on the mound going 1/3 inning giving up a hit which allowed 2 runs that were charged to Brenske.  The Chargers tried to mount a comeback led by Trent Johnson who went 4 for 4 with 3 doubles and 2 rbi's.  Jack Bakus also had a big day at the plate hitting 2 doubles and driving in 3 runs.  Jay Worsley joined the hit party with a run scoring single and a 2 run home run.

The Chargers will have to wait a couple of weeks to get back on the field as they are currently shut down by the Midland Public Schools suspension of Spring Sports by suggestion from the Govenor's office.
