Boys Varsity Baseball vs. Mt. Pleasant Senior HS School

Game Date
Apr 19, 2021

The Chargers split a doubleheader with Mount Pleasant Monday evening losing game one 8-2 and bouncing back to take game two 3-2.  In game one, Trent Johnson was the starting and losing pitcher, but pitched very well.  Johnson went 4 innings giving up 3 runs with only 1 being an earned run.  He struck out 5 and did not give up any walks.  Logan McCoy pitched the final 2 innings giving up 5 runs on only 2 hits as all runs were unearned.  Dow High was led offensively by Nolan Sanders who collected 2 hits and Jack Bakus delivered a two run double in the seventh inning.

Dow High refused to lose game 2 taking a 3 run lead and playing good defense with great pitching and timely hitting to win 3-2.  Nolan Sanders went 6 innings of strong pitching giving up 4 hits and 2 runs with none of those runs being earned.  Logan McCoy pitched the seventh inning for the save.  The Chargers jumped on top of the Oilers in the 3rd inning with a sacrifice fly by Jack Bakus scoring Alex Liakos.  Daniel Kowalczyk delivered the big blow in the 4th with a 2 run home run.  Billy VanSumeren led off the inning with a single and scored on the blast from Kowalczyk.  Some very fine defensive plays and Sanders keeping Mount Pleasant off balance perserved the lead and led to the win.

" We did not play very good in game #1 with some poor defense and not being strong at the plate, but I am proud and impressed on how our team rebounded for the game 2 victory.  We need to build on what we did good today and work on our weaknesses to gain some momentum and confidence for the rest of the season" said Coach Juday.

The Chargers will host Flint Powers in their home opener on Thursday April 22nd at 4:00.
