Dow High split a doubleheader at Bay City Western Thursday Night in Auburn, Michigan.  In game #1, the Chargers relinquished a 6-1 lead late in the game and Western forced Dow into extra innings.  The game went into the 10th inning where Dow pushed 2 runs across the board and then Cam Patty gunned down the tying run at second base trying to move up on a double steal putting a final at 8-7 for the Chargers.  Trent Johnson was the starting pitcher for Dow going 5 innings and giving up 6 runs.  Caleb Brenske came in relief and completed the game having to throw 5 innings due to the going extras.  Brenske held down Western to only 1 run and got the win for the Chargers.  Offensively, the Chargers were led by Billy VanSumeren who was 4 for 5 scoring 2 runs and knocking in 1.  Cam Haiser had a two run double.  Logan McCoy drove in the go ahead run in extra innings with a sacrifice fly that scored Riley Nelson who led off the inning with a single.

Bay City Western came out swinging in game two and Dow High was shut down by Western pitching as the Chargers could only muster 1 run for the game losing 8-1.  Logan McCoy was the starting pitcher for Dow picking up the loss.  Billy VanSumeren and Lance Kowalczyk both spent time on the mound in game 2.  Dow could only provide 2 hits to the offense with 1 from Jack Bakus and Lance Kowalczyk who also picked up the lone rbi.

" Game one was so emotional with ups and downs and then coming out on top in the end.  I am not sure if our guys were just mentally spent or not mentally prepared for game 2.  Either way, I have to give credit to the Western pitchers.  They mixed it up and had our guys off balance during the entire second game.  We will bounce back and learn from this" commented Coach Juday.

The Chargers will host Freeland in doubleheader starter at 4:00 tomorrow.
