Boys Varsity Baseball vs. Grand Blanc Community HS School

Game Date
May 20, 2021

The Dow High Varsity Baseball dropped a doubleheader to Grand Blanc last Thursday losing 7-4 in game one and then 14-0 in game two.  In Game 1, the Chargers fought hard, but came up short late in the game to lose 7-4.  Jay Worsley pitched a good 4 innings, but took the loss for the Chargers.  He pitched 4 innings giving up 5 runs with only 3 of those being earned.  Worsley would walk 2 and strike out 3.  Bill VanSumeren came in relief and gave up 2 runs on 2 hits.  Logan McCoy finished on the hill.  Dow was led offensively by Trent Johnson who was 3 for 4 and drove in 2 runs.  Thomas Biacagalupo would add a couple of hits and Jack Bakus drove in 2 runs on a double in the fourth inning.  Grand Blanc took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but Dow came right back with one of their own in the bottom half of the inning.  The Bobcats added 2 runs in the second and one each in the third and fourth to take a 5-1 lead.  Dow would plate 3 runs in the bottom of the fourth to make it 5-4.  GB scored 2 runs in the sixth and Dow would threaten, but not be able to score.

In Game two, it was all Grand Blanc.  GB would jump right out with 4 in the first inning and two in the second.  The fourth inning was a big one for the Bobcats as they would plate 6 and Dow could not get anything going on the offensive side of the ball.  John Szajenko started for Dow and took the loss giving up 6 runs on 5 hits.  Cam Haiser put out the original fire and shut GB down for 2 innings before giving up 4 runs of his own in the first part of the fourth inning.  Jack Bakus would pitch the remaining 2 innings giving up 4 runs of his own.  Dow could only muster 3 hits which were collected by Riley Nelson, Logan McCoy, and Ryan Erdmann.

" We played a great game in the opener and battled hard and came up just short.  I think we were just worn out for game two and I have to tip my cap to Grand Blanc as they really hit the ball and had great pitching all day.  They are a very good team.  We hung right with them in game one and I think our boys realize we can play with the best when we execute consistently.  This was a good learning experience for us and we will take it with us for the remainder of the season" stated Coach Juday.

The Chargers (15-13) will travel to Forest Hills Northern on Saturday for a doubleheader starting at 11AM.
